Step 1: Professional Document Verification

If you are an Internationally Qualified Nurse who intends to practice in New Zealand, you must first apply to CGFNS International, Inc. The Credentials Verification Service for the Nursing Council of New Zealand (CVS-NCNZ).

Your identity documents, academic and professional credentials, and nursing employment are all verified and authenticated by CGFNS International.

We then compile a report, which you must approve before we can send it to the NCNZ. When the NCNZ receives the information, you will be encouraged to apply for NCNZ registration.

Step 2: English Language Proficiency

  • Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS)-scoring 7 in all areas

If you meet the following criteria, you are excused from the English Language Proficiency Test:

Suppose your nursing education was completed in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and the United States of America. You will be registered to practice in those countries, or you will be recorded and practice in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, or the United States. You need to pass an English language exam to be written.

Step 3: Request that the CGFN submit the report to the New Zealand Nursing Council.

When you get your report, you must request that CGFNS forward it to the Nursing Council. It may take up to three business days to obtain your information. After that, you will receive an email asking you to apply for registration online.

Step 4: Apply to the NZ Nursing Council

Experience gained after registration/enrollment, including current practice.

Applicants who speak English as a second language must demonstrate their ability to speak, write, and understand the English language in a nursing or midwifery context.

Applicants will then get a Decision letter, which will welcome nurses onto the register, request further information, or demand extra training through a Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) at a recognized facility in New Zealand.

Step 5: Pay the Registration Fees
