Entrance Requirements

Nationality: You must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. If you have Japanese nationality at the time of application you are not eligible. Your screening will be conducted at the Japanese diplomatic mission in your based country.

Age: Research Student: You must have been born on or after April 2, 1985.
Undergraduate Student: You must have been born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2003.
College of Technology Student: You must have been born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2003.
Specialized Training College Student: You must have been born between April 2, 1995

Academic Background: You must meet one of the following conditions. However, if you desire direct placement you must satisfy either of the following 1 or 3 conditions.

  1. If you have completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan. (If you meet the above qualifications by March 2020, you are eligible. However, if you wish to enroll from the autumn term through direct placement you are expected to complete 12 years of schooling by August 2020.)
  2. If you have completed your studies at a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school in countries other than Japan. (if you will meet the above qualifications by March 2020, you are eligible.)
  3. You are eligible for enrollment in a Japanese university at the time of application.

Japanese Language: You must be willing to learn Japanese. You must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen your understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, you must be willing to carry out your academic studies in Japan in Japanese.

Health: You must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that you have no physical or mental conditions hindering your study in Japan.

Arrival in Japan: In principle, you must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2020. If you are to enroll in the university from the full semester through direct placement, You must be able to arrive in Japan during the period specified by the accepting university within two weeks before and after the starting date of the university’s relevant academic term for that year.

Visa Requirement: You shall obtain a “Student” visa at the Japanese diplomatic mission located in your country of nationality, and enter Japan with the residence status of “Student.”
